Academic Probation

Academic Probation- Student academic progress will be reviewed every three weeks. Any student with two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 will enter the Academic Support Process.

I. ACADEMIC SUPPORT PROCESS

A. Academic Review is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the end of a three-week cycle.

B. Academic Warning is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the quarter grading periods.

C. Academic Probation is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the end of two consecutive quarter grading periods.

II. ACADEMIC REVIEW is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the end of a three-week cycle.

A. Students on academic review will be required to meet briefly with their counselor/teacher and attend daily study sessions before school, during lunch, study hall, or after school until the next review process.

B. If a student is late, he will have one day added to his review period.

C. Rules for Study:

1. Students must bring their work.

2. Lunch study is silent.

3. Group work is not allowed.

4. No breaks are given.

5. Students will be released when their lunch/study period is over.

III. ACADEMIC WARNING is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the quarter grading periods. A student who earns two Ds or one F at the quarter will be placed on Academic Warning for the next quarter.

A. A student does not need to be on Academic Review to be placed on Academic Warning.

B. Academic Warning requires a student to:

1. Attend a meeting with his parent, academic counselor/teacher, and the Administrator at the beginning of probationary term.

2. Attend two hours of tutoring per week either at or outside of CCA and submit a record of tutoring when asked by the Secretary or Administrator.

3. Schedule appointments with teachers, to schedule times of additional instruction or to receive extra credit assignments.

4. Academic Warning students may participate in sports and extra-curricular activities at the discretion of the CCA administration.

IV. ACADEMIC PROBATION is a designation for students whose grades show two D’s, one or more F’s, or a GPA that falls under a 2.0 at the end of two consecutive quarter grading periods.

A. A student does not need to be on Academic Warning to be placed on Academic Probation; any student with two or more F’s is automatically placed on Academic Probation.

B. A student on Academic Probation must complete the same requirements as Academic Warning and may be asked to add additional tutoring hours.

C. Students on Academic Probation may not participate in athletics or extra-curricular activities.

D. Parents will be notified of a student’s placement on Academic Review, Academic Warning, or Academic Probation by a letter from the Administrator.

E. The Administration will meet with students who receive multiple “Ds” or an “F” in any course to devise a plan for making up the course.

F. Students may be required to remediate any “F” to graduate from CCA.

G. Remediation of Ds and Fs should take place the semester or summer following the grade report.

H. Remediation is not required to be done at CCA and is ultimately the parents and student’s responsibility.

I. A students may not be allowed to re-enroll if the remediation has not taken place to the satisfaction of the CCA administration.
