Athletic Eligibility

Academic Eligibility For Junior High And High School Athletes

Participating in athletic competition is a privilege and not a right. We want to put an emphasis on academics, while still allowing our students to develop their skills and talents in athletics. However, we do not want to sacrifice academics for athletics. The rules are as follows:

I. ACADEMICS IN GENERAL- In accordance with Florida Statute 1006.15(3)(a), a student must maintain a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for interscholastic athletic competition.

II. HIGH SCHOOL GPA REQUIREMENTS-

A. A high school student must have a cumulative 2.0 grade point average (C average) on a 4.0 unweighted scale, or its equivalent, at the conclusion of each semester to be academically eligible during the next semester.
B. A student cannot have any Fs on their progress report or report card.

III. MIDDLE SCHOOL/JUNIOR HIGH ELIGIBILITY-

A. A middle/junior high student must have 2.0 GPA (C average), or the equivalent of a 2.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale, at the conclusion of each semester.
B. A student cannot have any Fs on their progress report or report card.

IV. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY/INELIGIBILITY FOR A SEMESTER-

A. Eligibility to enter an athletic program is determined by semester.
B. A student’s academic eligibility is determined by his/her GPA on the first day of each semester.
C. Any coursework completed throughout the semester will be calculated into the GPA at the conclusion of the semester.
D. However, if in the middle of a season a student’s overall grade drops below a 2.0 or an F appears on the progress report or report card, a student may be asked to step aside from sports to focus on their academics.
